House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy defended books written by famed children’s author Dr. Seuss by reading Green Eggs and Ham out loud and posting the video on Twitter.

“I still like Dr. Seuss, so I decided to read Green Eggs and Ham,” the California Republican tweeted to his 1.2 million followers, and he encouraged them to retweet the video if they felt the same way.

McCarthy’s post, which was retweeted over 11,000 times and viewed over 2 million times as of Saturday morning, comes in the wake of a controversy surrounding several of Dr. Seuss’s books that were recently deemed too offensive by the publisher to continue printing.

“These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong,” the publishing company announced Tuesday about six Dr. Seuss titles, including And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street and If I Ran the Zoo.

Following the news, Dr. Seuss’s books rocketed to the top of the Amazon best-seller list and prices soared on eBay as fans of the books began buying up copies to show their support.

Dr. Seuss has received support from several other prominent conservatives who believe that the author is the latest victim of “cancel culture,” including Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, Jr.

“I literally know The Cat in the Hat by heart without the book there because I read it so many times to my children,” Trump said on Fox News, adding that “these things are not racist.”
