Two people have been shot when at least one gunman opened fire along a busy dining street in Washington DC, before running from the scene, jumping with another man into a waiting car and speeding off.

Police on Thursday night said they were searching for the gunman or gunmen, and published surveillance footage.

It showed a black man in a lime green or yellow hoodie and another man in all black running from the scene and jumping into a waiting black Honda Civic.

The man dressed in all black appeared to discard something in his left hand, behind a dark red Sedan.

One man was shot in the chest and another in the arm, according to WUSA9. Both were conscious and breathing.

Police are now searching to see if any more victims were caught in the crossfire.

‘Shooting at the intersection of 14th / Riggs Street, NW,’ DC police tweeted.

‘Lookout is for a B/M male wearing a lime green/yellow hooded sweater fleeing in a older black Honda Civic with DC Tags last seen eastbound towards S Street, NW.’

The site is two blocks from Le Diplomat, one of DC’s buzziest eateries, where President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the vice president, dined on Memorial Day.

Images on social media showed tables upturned and glass shattered as outdoor diners fled in panic.

Diners told WUSA9 they saw ‘sparks’, and ran inside the restaurant. Another customer said she saw a young man running and firing a gun.

A heavy police, fire and ambulance presence was visible on 14th Street after the shooting

The shooting comes five days after a MLB baseball game was postponed when a gunfight broke out outside the Washington Nationals stadium.

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information about Saturday’s shooting, and officers are hunting for the gunman’s car.

Fans ran for cover and three people were shot just outside the stadium’s third base gate, when gunmen in two cars exchanged fire.

On Sunday police released photos of one of the cars involved, in the hope of tracking down the suspects.

The driver of the car sped off after the 9:30pm shooting.

The police union heaped blame on the ‘elected officials’ who they said allowed DC to become lawless.

‘Welcome to Washington, D.C. Where violent crime permeates everything,’ they tweeted on Sunday morning.

‘It is a tragedy that elected officials won’t let us do our jobs.’

Saturday night’s shooting outside the stadium happened 24 hours after six-year-old Nyiah Courtney was killed and five adults were injured in a mass shooting less than a mile from the stadium.

Police said someone in a silver- or gray-colored sedan opened fire near a Popeyes restaurant at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X avenues.

Mayor Muriel Bowser and other DC and federal law enforcement officials held an emotional press conference about Friday’s shooting and talked about the sickening and senseless gun violence that took a first grader’s life.

During the press conference, DC Police Chief Robert J. Contee III said the gun violence must end announced a $60,000 reward.

‘We have the collective responsibly to ensure our children have a right to be safe from violence. So I’m asking all to stand together and say, ‘No more.”

So far this year, there have been 101 homicides in Washington DC, according to DC police crime stats, which is exactly the same number of homicides as there were at this time last year.

But last year saw a 20 per cent increase over 2019 with 198 homicides.

That’s a jump from 135 homicides in 2015, and 132 in 2010
